With that said, this tool-free method can bring you great results in a pinch.ī can cover all your needs related to rivet nuts and rivet nut tools. Stainless steel rivet nuts are virtually impossible to tighten without a tool, or at least it is much more difficult. Unfortunately, this method is not universal. The rivet nut should be deformed and fastened. In the end, you simply loosen the nut then unscrew the bolt from the rivet nut. ![]() Insert the bolt as far into the rivet nut as you can, then manually screw it in until the nut and washer stop you from screwing any further. For tools, you will need an open-end wrench as well as a pair of water pump pliers or a second wrench that can hold the top of the machine screw or bolt tightly.Īfter placing the rivet nut into the hole, you must thread on the loose nut then place the bolt through the washer or bushing. You should also have a washer or larger bushing that can fit around the bolt fairly tight. You will also need a bolt that 1) has its own nut, and 2) can fit into the rivet nut. To install rivet nuts without a tool, you will still need more than just your bare hands. This “DIY” approach is possible and not uncommonly practiced. On these occasions, you will need the few items you have on hand to fasten them. However, there may be times when this is not the case. Usually, you will have some kind of dedicated tool for fastening rivet nuts at your disposal. The rivet nut is the practical choice, for example, when assembling semi-trucks and trailers or making certain structural repairs that require fastening heavy materials together and you only have access to one side. Instead of trying to get to the other side of the work, you just install them from one side and you are done. The “blindness” quality of rivet nuts means that they can really come in handy when fastening from both sides would take too much time or is simply impossible. Why Would I Need to Install Without a Tool? Once installed they can be used with machine screws and bolts to fasten various objects to the finished application or to hold objects together such as a display case that must be assembled and disassembled multiple times. As a result, they have a wide variety of applications, from the mast of a sailboat, race cars, golf carts, appliances, display cases and machines in all industries made from a diverse array of materials. This means that they do not need any additional fastening and anyone can install one in just a few seconds. One type of rivet nut creates a bulge on the blind side of the work, while the other goes into a sleeve and is less obvious. When they are inserted into the drilled hole, you can deform them in such a way that they cannot fall out on their own. ![]() People can install and fasten them blindly, meaning entirely from one side of the work. Here is some advice on how to install rivet nuts without a tool.įirst, a quick review: rivet nuts are mostly tubular, internally threaded blind rivets. A little known fact, however, is that you can also install them even if you do not have any of the proper rivet nut tools available. In contrast, another part of their appeal is that inserting and fastening them is typically quick and simple using the proper tools. Part of the appeal of rivet nuts is their toughness and the fact that they can be installed into a blind hole as well as the fact that they can be extremely difficult to dislodge or remove. ![]() ![]() ![]() Is 'The Last Voyage of the Demeter' Streaming on Netflix, Max, or Amazon Prime Video? To make the game more difficult, the players must call the pocket and the ball which they plan to pot. Like 9 Ball, on any given shot (including the break) the first contact must be made between the cue ball and the lowest numbered ball on the table. The 2 and 3 balls should be placed one on each corner of the triangle. The 1 ball should be at the apex and on the foot spot, and the 10 ball in the middle. The game is played with 10 balls (numbered 1 through 10), racked in a triangle, instead of a diamond as in 9 Ball. Either way works.ġ0 Ball is very similar in its structure to 9 Ball, but with some big differences that make it a more difficult game. Since 9 Ball is a fairly quick game, many people play to a predetermined point threshold, assigning a point to each match or to each ball. Like in 8 Ball, any player who legally pockets a ball can continue to shoot until he/she misses, fouls, or wins the game. The player who pockets the 9-ball first wins, whether done after the cue ball has hit the lowest numbered object ball on the table, or the 9-ball is the last ball in play. If the cue ball is pocketed on the break, the opposing player takes over with ball in hand anywhere on the table. A legal break shot is one that drives at least four balls to a cushion, or pockets one or more balls- as long as the 1 ball is the first ball to be struck. The balls are racked in a diamond shape with the 1 ball at the apex on the foot spot and 9-ball in the middle. As the name suggests, 9 Ball is played with 9 object balls (numbered 1 through 9) and a cue ball. Next up is 9 Ball, which is arguably as popular as 8 Ball. Related Article: 8-Ball Pool Rules: The Simple Version In order to win, a player must legally pocket the 8-ball in the called pocket, without scratching the cue ball. Once all of the object balls of the player’s suit have all been pocketed, then that player can go for the 8-ball, calling the pocket beforehand. Instead, matches can be assigned points, or, as is more common, the winner can be crowned in “best out of 5 matches”, if you have the time. Points are not typically assigned to the object balls, as is common in other pool table games. The objective of 8-ball is to sink all of your object balls and then the 8-ball before your opponent does. If either player legally pockets a ball of their own suit, they can go again until they miss or foul. Stripes are the numbers 9 through 15, solids are 1 through 7. To determine who will be playing the solid balls, and who will be playing the stripes, one player must legally pocket one or more of the same suit on any shot after the break.
